A crypto payment means paying for a purchase with a cryptocurrency or a stablecoin, in store or online, instead of a bank card. The customer pays from their wallet or exchange account; the merchant receives, as it chooses, euros or stablecoins, with no volatility exposure. In Europe, these payments have been governed by the MiCA regulation since 2026.
This guide covers both sides: how to pay in crypto, and how to accept it as a merchant.
How does a crypto payment work?
The merchant enters the amount in euros on its payment terminal, till or online payment page.
A QR code is displayed. The customer scans it with their phone's camera.
The customer chooses their payment method (wallet or exchange) and their crypto, then sends the exact amount.
The transaction is confirmed on the blockchain, usually in about 2 minutes.
The merchant receives settlement in euros or in stablecoins, as it chooses.
Which cryptos can be used to pay in 2026?
Since MiCA, regulated payment solutions only accept compliant assets. With Lyzi, more than 300 cryptocurrencies can be used, counting those of the integrated exchanges and those accepted directly:
Regulated stablecoins: USDC and EURC (Circle), EURCV (Société Générale-FORGE), EURE (Monerium). They are the simplest way to pay: stable value, no wallet connection needed.
Cryptos accepted directly: ETH, WBTC, POL and AVAX, on Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum One, Base, OP Mainnet and Avalanche C-Chain.
Via the integrated exchanges (KuCoin, WhiteBIT): the cryptos available in your account.
What about USDT? It is not MiCA compliant and is therefore not accepted directly. You can swap your USDT for USDC through a simplified, multi-chain decentralized (DeFi) swap, then pay. See the USDT guide.
