Stablecoins: the Association du Paiement Reference Guide and What It Means for Merchants

In October 2026, the Association du Paiement, the French payments industry association, published its Stablecoins Reference Guide, covering the fundamentals, uses and regulatory framework of stablecoins. Damien Patureaux, CEO and co-founder of Lyzi, is a co-author. The guide was launched on 15 October 2026 in Paris at the “Le Grand Jeu des Stablecoins” evening, hosted by Groupe Partouche, where Damien Patureaux spoke. The guide's core message: stablecoins can complement existing payment methods, including payments at merchants.

What the Stablecoins Reference Guide covers

  • Fundamentals: what a stablecoin is and how it works.
  • Regulation: the European MiCA regulation and how it interacts with payment services rules.
  • Conversion: the mechanisms for moving between traditional currencies and crypto-assets.
  • Uses: cross-border payments, corporate treasury management and merchant payments, with the associated risks.
  • Beyond Europe: international developments and emerging uses such as programmable payments.

The guide is built as questions and answers, with insights from payments and legal experts including Hubert de Vauplane (Morgan Lewis) and Damien Patureaux (Lyzi).

A launch at a Lyzi client

The launch evening was held at Groupe Partouche, which had announced a few days earlier the rollout of crypto payments in its casinos and on its app with Lyzi. A concrete illustration of what the guide describes: stablecoin and crypto payments are already live at regulated merchants.

Why it matters for merchants

Merchant payments are one of the uses covered by the guide. This has been Lyzi's field since 2019: enabling a merchant to accept MiCA-compliant stablecoins (EURC, USDC, EURCV, EURE) and more than 300 cryptocurrencies, with settlement in euros or stablecoins.

Merchants today sell online as much as in store. Lyzi covers both with a single integration:

  • In store: on the existing payment terminal, among more than one million compatible terminals (Ingenico, Verifone, Sunmi, PAX, Landi, Nepting, Sylq, Yavin).
  • Online: WooCommerce and PrestaShop plugins, payment button, payment link and API.
  • For online gaming and betting: crypto and stablecoin deposits via PaymentIQ or by API.
  • For land-based casinos: by API and on cash desk payment terminals.

Much like open banking for a bank account, the customer pays directly from the wallet or exchange account that holds their crypto: Lyzi aggregates more than 500 wallets and integrated exchanges in a single connector.

Key takeaways

  • Stablecoins are moving beyond the crypto world: a professional payments association has dedicated a reference guide to them.
  • MiCA sets the framework; compliant stablecoins, in euros or dollars, are the ones regulated players accept.
  • Merchant payments in stablecoins are already live, in store, online and at the casino.
